Unity Social Consciousness in Action (USCIA)

                     Fall 2007 events listed below!!

Who are we?

We are a self-organizing interest/action/study group that is raising the consciousness and impact of Unity and specifically Unity of Beaverton around world issues. We are a vibrant presence in the community - at every level - making a difference in the World.

Our USCIA Vision:

We envision thriving communities acting to promote peace, equity and harmony with the Earth.

We actively and prayerfully embody and express our Unity of Beaverton Purpose and Mission:

As a Unity Church, our purpose is to know, experience, and express God in community.

Our Mission is to celebrate the presence of God and nurture spiritual growth through prayer, inspiration, education, service and fellowship.

Our first focus is on climate change but we will not stop there. We are the umbrella group for environmental, social justice and peace activities that emerge within our spiritual community. We approach all circumstances from a Unity perspective, adapting and applying our Unity principles and our spiritual consciousness to each situation.

Check out Focus the Nation www.focusthenation.org for information on this initiative.

There are quite a few of us who clearly have been longing for some social action here at UoB. In our ‘other’ lives, we have been engaged and involved in the world, but have not been engaged in this way through our spiritual community. That is now changing!

We are co-creating an opportunity to

·         Practice our spiritual principles in the world

·         Demonstrate ‘practical spirituality/practical Christianity’

·         Be the Christ-presence in the world

Exploring Deep Ecology Northwest Earth Institute Class www.nwei.org

(Small fee for workbook)

A course exploring our core values and how they affect the way we view and treat the earth. “Deep ecology describes itself as "deep" because it is concerned with fundamental philosophical questions about the role of human life as one part of the ecosphere, rather than with a narrow view of ecology as a branch of biological science . . . leads to a new system of environmental ethics.” (Wikipedia, accessed 9/21/07)

Gaia Earth Meditation

Weds, Jan 31, 7:00-8:00

A beautiful and moving celebration of our planet – slide show, meditation, songs, and candle lighting.

REPORT The inspiring images of our home – in all the seasons – brought into focus how beautiful the Earth is and how beautiful human design is especially when it reflects natural design. We were deeply touched by what great gifts Gaia has given us of beauty and love, abundance and nurture. Our meditation and candle lighting helped us reflect on what is most important and to identify our personal intentions for our lives and our care for the Earth. Thank you, John McAnulty, for your incredible photography!
